Rev. Dr Francis Ngoi received his theological education from Trinity Theological College, Singapore, where he obtained his Bachelor of Theology and Master of Arts in Pastoral Counseling in 1975 and 1978 respectively. He also studied Family Counseling and Christian Character Development at Boston University School of Theology, where he obtained his Doctor of Pastoral Care degree in 1990, and a Professional Diploma in Marriage and Family Therapist from the London School of Family Therapy in 1996.
Rev. Dr Francis Ngoi has been the Senior Pastor of the Chinese Annual Conference of the Methodist Church in Singapore for more than 20 years. Apart from pastoral ministry, he also served as a full-time officer in the Ministry of Christian Education for two years, and as an Assistant Clinical Training Instructor and Counseling Course Lecturer in the Singapore Malaysia Pastoral Care Association and Trinity Theological Seminary for a number of years. Since 2002, he has been the Director of the Oasis Family Life Education Center under the Chinese Annual Conference of the Methodist Church in Singapore. His main task is to help dysfunctional families and to develop various Christian Family Life Education (FLE) programs that emphasize Christ-centered interactions among family members to cultivate the capacity to love people and God.
He believes that the best way to build Christian character and the ability to love God and people is to equip believers to play effective Christian roles at different stages of the family life journey, such as preparing for marriage, raising infants, nurturing children’s personalities, supervising children’s studies, counseling teenage children’s problems, and coping with the crisis of an empty nest. After that, they will be further equipped to serve in the church.
Rev. Dr Francis Ngoi is convinced that the 21st century church should actively lead believers “to the point of perfection” (Heb. 6:1), so that they will be able to fulfill Jesus’ command, “Love one another as I have loved you” (Jn. 15:12). (Jn 15:12). To facilitate believers’ progress toward wholeness or the ability to love people as Jesus did, we must not neglect the implementation of spiritual formation strategies through the establishment of healthy Christian families.
